Since entering the vibrant music scene in her Canadian hometown of St. John’s, NL, multi-instrumentalist and songwriter Kat McLevey has become one of Newfoundland and Labrador’s most prestigious singer/songwriters. McLevey released her debut LP Evergrown on the eve of moving to Boston to attend Berklee College of Music in August of 2015.

According to Newfoundland’s alternative newspaper, The Overcast, McLevey has “lived up to her promise and eclipsed it” with her debut LP, Evergrown, which delivers a sophisticated, spare, highly controlled and moody sound that leaves a mark on its listeners.
 

Since its release, the record has earned McLevey two MusicNL Awards for Female Artist of the Year and Emerging Artist of the Year, an East Coast Music Award nomination for Rising Star Recording of the Year, and a coveted spot on The Overcast’s triple-juried shortlist for the Borealis Music Prize. In the words of Chad Pelley, award-winning author and editor of the Overcast, McLevey has grown from “prospect to powerhouse” and is no longer “one to watch,” but “one to catch up with.”
